Karachi: Number System Abolished, New Grading System Implemented for Matric and Inter
KARACHI: The Government of Sindh has officially abolished the traditional number-based system in all educational boards across the province, replacing it with a new Grading System.
Key Update: The Sindh Minister for Universities and Boards, Ismail Rahoo, confirmed that this decision follows the federal IBCC policy to match international education standards.
Phased Implementation Timeline
- 2026: System begins with Annual Examinations for Class 9 and Class 11.
- 2027: System extends to Annual Examinations for Class 10 and Class 12.
New Grading Criteria Chart
Under this system, student performance will be evaluated in Grades instead of marks. Below is the complete chart:

Passing Marks Policy
The passing marks threshold has been officially set at 40%. Students scoring below this in any subject will be awarded a ‘U’ Grade (Fail).
Minister Ismail Rahoo emphasized that this system aims to bring uniformity across all Pakistani educational boards. A GPA System is also planned for the future.
